Domains #
Domains are the domain portion of email addresses in which the Mailborder server is the final destination according to DNS. You must have an internal email server that hosts user inboxes as Mailborder does not host email inboxes. Any email server such as Exchange 2010, Exchange 2013, Zimbra, or iRedmail are compatible with Mailborder.
Networks #
Networks are IPv4 or IPv6 addresses or address spaces that you wish to allow to relay email through the Mailborder cluster, assign specific scanning policies, or both. Networks can be CIDR address spaces such as 192.168.10.0/24.
Email Objects #
Email Objects are essentially email addresses that you wish to assign a custom set of policies. You would typically add an Object when you wish the scanning behavior to be different from either the Domain or Network policies.
Flow #
“Flow” refers to the direction relative to the Mailborder server or Object. Normally, the flow for a Domain is “To”. The normal flow for an Email Object is “To”. The flow for an IP address will normally be “From”.
However, rules for Domains, Networks, or Email Objects can have any policy applied to them using any flow. Multiple rules can also be applied. For example, a single Domain can have separate policies for “From” and “To” flows.
Priority #
Priority determines the order in which policies are matched. Policies and Rules with a lower priority are matched first. For example, if an email matches both a Domain and a Network policy, the policy with the lower Priority number will be used. If the system encounters two policies with the same priority, then the following order match is used:
Email Object > Network > Domain > Default
For example, if a Network and Domain policy both match an email and they both have the same Priority, the Network policy will be used.
Rules created by users within the Mailborder Portal are considered Email Object policies and have a default Priority of 5.
Delivery Address #
The IP address or hostname that will be the final destination of processed email. This only applies to domains.
Port #
The port to use in conjunction with the Delivery Address. This is typically port 25. This only applies to domains.
